Can you believe we are already here? The halfway mark. Six months down, six months to go. Somewhere between January’s big goals and today, real life happens.

Maybe you reached goals you did not expect to reach. Maybe a few things fell off the list. Or maybe you changed direction and you are still figuring it out. All of that is valid, and all of it is worth pausing to acknowledge before you look toward the second half.

Before we talk about what is next, let’s do something we do not do nearly enough: reflect on the last six months.

Your midyear glows & grows

One of my favorite reflection exercises is what I call the Glows & Grows. July is a beautiful time to try it. Your glow is something from the past six months that you are genuinely proud of. It does not have to be a major milestone or something that looks impressive to anyone else. It just has to be real and yours.

Maybe you kept a boundary you used to let slide. Maybe you showed up consistently for a person, practice, or goal, even when it was inconvenient. Maybe you simply made it through a hard season with more grace than you gave yourself credit for.

Your grow is something you want to give more attention to in the months ahead. It is not a failure. It is an honest look at where a little more focus could make a difference: your energy, health, relationships, finances, or perhaps a dream that keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the list.

Take a few quiet minutes and write both down. There is something powerful about putting it on paper.

Where summer self-care comes in

We can treat self-care like a reward we have not earned yet, as if we must hit a certain level of productivity before we are allowed to rest, restore, and refill. But that is not how it works.

Self-care is not only a spa day, although those are lovely. It is the small, intentional choices you make to protect your mental, physical, and emotional health. It can be a ten-minute walk before the day gets away from you, a morning without your phone, an honest conversation, or a boundary you hold even when it feels uncomfortable.

A few things worth choosing this summer

  • Move your body joyfully. Take a nature walk, swim, or dance in your kitchen. Let movement feel like a gift, not a chore.
  • Protect your rest. Sleep is not a luxury. Neither is saying no to things that drain you.
  • Reconnect with someone who fills you up. Text one person you have been meaning to reach out to. Real connection matters.
  • Sit with your accomplishments. You did things in the first six months of this year. Honor them, write them down, and celebrate them.
  • Write your summer affirmation. Try: “This summer, I will ____.” Keep it specific enough to do and kind enough to want.

You have already done hard things

The fact that you are here at the halfway point of the year means you made it through everything the first half brought. This next season does not have to be about doing more. It can be about moving with more intention, rest, joy, and self-trust.
